My Eiffel

What the one of the world's most photographed sights looked to me during my trip to Paris.

Post Noir

Shot this on the way to the train station from the Pentti Sammallahti exhibition held in late 2010. The main entrance of the main post office in Helsinki.

Silja Galaxy by sunrise

Went out to shoot some sunrise photos over at Ruissalo in Turku, Finland. We thought we might see some of the ferries coming back from Sweden, but to our surprise we arrived right on cue with the Silja Galaxy. Had to scramble a bit but managed to shoot this lovely sunrise shot. And for those asking: it is not HDR.

Attention on deck

From the Turku 2011 Culture Capital year opening ceremony in January. The ship in the photo is Suomen Joutsen, a notable landmark of Turku. Supposedly the President of Finland was watching the ceremony from the deck.

The Smooth Ones

Lovely light on lovely buildings somewhere in Paris. Rest of my Paris photos can be found at Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mondogonzo/sets/72157633180187878/

Kamppi Chapel of Silence

Details of the Chapel of Silence, which is located in Kamppi, Helsinki. Excellent place to stop by and enjoy the silence for a few moments, it is eerily quiet in there.

Kaisa-building

University of Helsinki opened it's new main library recently. Pretty nice place. Shot on Leica M8 + Zeiss 35/2 Biogon T*

Halistenkoski

Fog at the Halistenkoski rapid in Turku, Finland.

Porsche Museum

The Porsche Museum was unfortunately closed during the Stuttgart portion of our Nürburgring 24h visit, but I was still able to get this snapshot through the windshield of our car. The architecture is absolutely stunning.

"That's a nice sounding phone"

Another street photograph that looks like a phone ad.

Monday

Chairs & tables from the Helsinki Music Center.

"That's a good looking phone"

The gaze of the lady in the background looks like it could be from a phone ad. "Those new Verizon phones sure look great!" Shot from the hip on Leica M8 + Zeiss 35/2 Biogon T*

Helsinki street

Street photography in Helsinki doesn't get much more essential than this. The lady had dropped her umbrella cover earlier, a gentleman ran after her but passed it on in such a hurry that the poor lady dropped it again. Shot from the hip on a Leica M8 + 21mm Elmarit ASPH.

Janis Joplin

Details from a 1960s Mercedes-Benz W108 resting under a tree. Shot on a 1960 Hasselblad to Ilford FP4+, scanned on Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED, resulting in a 74 megapixel file.

Audi

Audi A4 Koneteekkareiden lehteen.

Eye of Maranello

The headlight of a Ferrari 458 Italia, shot while passing by a promotional stand during Culture Tall Ships in 2011 in Turku.

When the gasoline runs out

Party like it's 1935

Rodenstock Ysette (essentially a Balda Baldax with Rodenstock Trinar lenses) taking a photo of the celebration going on at the city square after Finland won the ice hockey championship for the second time ever.

Cheerleader jump

The students of media studies were doing a calendar for the year 2011 with the theme "tv shows". She is playing homage to the cheerleader from Heroes. Lit with three SB-600s set on various tables and tripods, no modifiers. I have to give credit to our model Saara, who didn't complain once despite jumping around 60 times for this shot, and our "producer" who kept pushing us until we met her expectations.
